Dhaka has been recently divided in two, North Dhaka and South Dhaka. Today it is voting day after a few weeks of electioneering. Electioneering was apparent to an outsider like me mostly from 3 things. First were the thousands and thousands of pamphlets hung from ropes that were than strung over the streets depicting the candidates. In some streets the amount of ropes that were crossing the street gave a sort of festive feeling, not really bade to see. But with one rain storm all the pamphlets came down and caused a heap of dirt.

Anyway today elections are over and today is voting day. The Government has decided in its wisdom that today there may not be any car or bus or rickshaw on the road. So in this metropole of over 12 million people it is an amazing day. No traffic!!! As this is the first time that it happens and possibly also the last time, it will be long remembered. Waking up for me without the distant sound of the blaring horns of buses. Amazing!!! So we are confined to our apartment, could not even go out for a round of golf, and now I am confined to my work only.
